Updating Navi on 2014

I talked to local dealer about updating Navi system maps and they say they have to do it and it will cost $700. Any recommendations?

Yep, don't worry about it. Very little of the maps will have changed meaningfully since your car was new.

$700? That is laughable! You could buy the nicest, best GPS in the world with free lifetime upgrades for half the cost. Or better yet, spend nothing and use your phone for an even better experience.

Last night I was driving up my local toll road, using my phone as GPS. I know the road inside/out, but I use the phone for live traffic. Sure enough it wants me to get off 2 exits before I am supposed to. As I am getting off the exit I see tons of brake lights coming up. Get home 3 minutes later than normal and look it up online, over an hour delay on my usual route due to a traffic accident. I wouldn't pay a single penny to upgrade my built in Nav...
