Default Fan blower droning noise.

started the other day a deep droning rumble noise coming from the centre console? Fan noise gets louder the more the fan is turned up, about 5 weeks ago I had a A/C service and pollen filter change.

its booked in but anyone have a idea as to what it is don't want the steeler to saying it's a wallet open job.

You don't say where you are located--you should put that in signature or avatar to help in responses. In any case, if USA for example and it's a 2015 under 50K miles, why not just bring it in to dealer as a warranty issue? Then it's their cost, not yours.

If by chance you have a solar roof, those tend to eat HVAC fans. I think Audi discontinued the option on later D4's, probably because of this. Ate mine twice on 2000 C5 A6, and is the usual correlator with D3 fan failures.

Hi thanks for that, I'm in the UK 🇬🇧 it's going g to the dealers on Monday, it's just had a A/C service and filter change by the dealer it's going back to, looks like they could have overcharged the system by adding to much freon this can damage the system.

I just didn't want them fobbing me off with some random excuse. It's cooling properly, but this droning when the A/C is engaged ( which it always is) is sounding worse by the day, my young son could hear a high pitched noise at first but this was out of my audible range, then as it deepened I could hear it.

sounds like a new compressor could be needed as it could be damaged.

Hmmm. I have a noise in center dash area which my old ears can't hear but younger kids can. The one they hear is tied to the MMI unit, and from their description seems to be the internal hard drive--sort of some clicks that are maybe a drive head. They hear it near start up and every 30 minutes or so apparently, but I never do. Since the MMI central dash unit blew up on our Q5 under warranty and is literally a $3,000 plus assembly, I pay close attention to it. Underneath it contains a hopelessly obsolete <$50 drive from like a 10 year old iPod. My HVAC fan though seems normal.

The day after it stopped making the droning noise, it's still booked in at the dealers for Monday they said get it in ASAP, so I suspect they may well look at what they did at the A/C service.
