Android Auto/Apple Car Play
So car salesperson tell me the D5 does not support Android Auto wireless but it does support wireless Apple Car Play?
Having never used either of these systems, can someone please confirm? Does that make sense?

nope, mine does require a cable for both (A7 2019). I suspect that it will be a different case with the A8. I wounder why car makers are not up to date with Andriod and iOS. Apple's has been there for more than a year for now and no sight with car makers other than BMW.
BTW, BMW now charges annual subscription for users who want Apple Car Play. Could that be the reason why other brand are behind and didn't make the step with the new version of Car Play?

The D5 definitely supported Apple CarPlay via wireless connection. I have a D5 and my iPhone X works with it seamlessly. I have no idea of its capabilities or requirements with Android phones.

Setting it up in the D5 is extremely easy. The new MMI recognizes the iPhone and presents a screen asking if you'd like to connect your iPhone to activate Apple CarPlay. This is done via Bluetooth. A code shows up on iPhone and MMI that need to match...confirm and it's operational. The familiar iPhone apps show up on a screen (BTW, the CarPlay interface is touch-screen only...no haptic feedback from it.) It's extremely easy to use and Siri is very accurate, reading and sending text messages as well.
Also, note that while CarPlay is operational/connected, the MMI cannot connect to your iPhone unless you first disconnect it from CarPlay.

I tried my best to enable it with no luck. I have been through the whole process you mentioned but with no wireless Apple CarPlay activated. Mine is 2019 A7 picked less than two weeks ago!!

I suggest stopping by your dealer to see if someone there can assist you with the Bluetooth connection between your iPhone and CarPlay. The 2019 A7 should recognize your iPhone and ask if you'd like your iPhone to connect to CarPlay.
