Default Virtual Cockpit Guages

From the Q8 forum—someone posted that the instrument cluster guages are too bright at night and cast off too much glare. See below pic that was posted with the complaint. States that there’s no way to adjust the brightness.

My test drive of the D5 was on a sunny bright day, so this wasn’t a noticeable issue for me. Anyone with a D5 find this to be an issue at night?

I test drove the D5 extensively at night and can confidently state the glare was not something that stood out to me. That said, I believe that I did lower the brightness. I'm 99% sure I figured out how. Unfortunately as I am awaiting delivery of my D5, I cannot confirm or deny at this time. Sorry.

Thanks...Really can’t imagine one couldn’t adjust the brightness somehow. Probably addressed in the owner’s manual that’s escaping some folks.

Page 64 of the D5's owner's manual provides the instructions on adjusting the display brightness. In summary, via the MMI, select SETTINGS-->Display & brightness. Possible brightness settings there are for cockpit dimming, head-up display, and virtual cockpit.

That was my post and the cluster can definitely be dimmed as stated above with the Virtual Cockpit brightness setting. The MMI brightness only controls the two stacked center screens. However with the VC at max dim the guages are still too bright for me at night. Having them white instead of a softer color like orange doesn’t help. The OBDEleven coding to dim the VC helped a lot though, it’s much better. The coding is posted in Q8 for anyone interested. For many people it may not even be an issue.

I will check, but there should be a **** near the steering wheel to take care of the brightness. To me, it is a non-issue, and I actually like to have it as bright as possible.

"next-generation" cars have removed the ****, as everything is touch capacitive now...and that adjustment no longer exists near the light panel any longer.

Has anyone figured out why the calculated miles remaining in tank is sometimes red and other times no?

It's only red when you're on the trip computer tab. That tab is red, audio is yellow, phone is green, and Nav is blue.
