1991 Audi 100 VSS
Been around the block with replacing the Vehicle Speed Sensor on my 1991 Audi 100 4-speed automatic. The sensor I found in the car was the one sold for manual trans., not automatic (L-shaped-long probe). Ordered the "perfect fit" sensor for automatic, and it is an "ABS VSS SC198", but doesn't fit.
Can I just order the manual trans. sensor and install?

Sounds like you got an ABS sensor for the brakes..you need a part number 095927321C
Costs about $14 from Hans, see the link:https://www.hansautoparts.com/095927...eedSensor.aspx

Thanks Rusty Spokes. The part you recommend is correct, and it's identical to the one I ordered. It's possible I am looking at the wrong sensor. The one I'm looking at is just inboard of the flange at the transmission output, driver's side. You don't have a picture of the VSS location, just to confirm?

I think the sensor you are looking at is a multi-function switch, located there as you described.. part number 095919823C if it looks like this:
NLA from VW/Audi..it was used on early Eurovans and other VWs..and can be had from Germany or maybe here in the USA from Ebay. https://en.partacus.de/spareparts/de...f3fc7dc1381a8/

Looks like you need a 095927321C VSS sensor..
Could be a 095927321A...but most suppliers list that for VW.
You should have a part number on the sensor to confirm..I would go with the "C"
