After nearly 2 years of junkyarding I finally found a belly pan
granted, it's seen better days as 2 of the mounting points are damaged, but it's nothing a little angle iron, nuts, bolts, and washers won't fix up.
I'm interested in seeing just how much difference it really makes wrt road noise. I noticed that there are 2 'air scoops' on it. Curious to see what components they direct air to for what is probably a cooling effect. |
Nice find, I found one a year ago.
and my 94 came with one! It's probably only been mounted a total of 6 months out of the 5 years I've owned the car.

Nice score! Doubt you'll notice any difference, but maybe your highway mpg's will go up half a point

i have one for sale , email me

The air scoops I've never figured out what they do.
|
I have them for both my c4's.
I don't notice any difference with or without them on.
Except - Engine bay stays cleaner with it. - Makes it a PITA to change oil etc. |
Are they aimed at the exhaust down pipes and cats? I'll have to look when the wife comes home.
Either that, or there are a lot of fins on the left and right output housings for the trans. Maybe they help keep that cool?

They are great for road noise
I had one but after my tranny fix they forgot to put it back I lost track of it. It also helps to keep you engine temperature stable. And the big one.... Keeps your engine and oil filter safe and away from the odd rock, that has been placed there to kill your engine....

According to Audi:
Without belly pan the air coming in under the front bumper creates an air dam in the engine compartment. With belly pan in place it creates a venturi effect and draws more air through the radiator. |
Probably not a bad idea for the Utah desert summer...
