Another road trip at 24mpg

620mi on Saturday and Sunday. Tried to keep the speed down below 70 and we were getting right at 24mpg.

Put Premium (91) in it for the drive up, and then on the way home couldn't resist the low grade (87) at $1.59/gal.

Got back out on the freeway and it wasn't long before the check engine light started flickering. Seemed to be doing it when the cruise control would let up a little on a slight down hill. Haven't read the code(s) it probably stored yet though.

Other than that, a good trip. Oh, bought one of those 12v thermoelectric coolers.....a big 32 quart one....in like-new condition at the local swap meet for $3. That thing was great. Kept everything refrigerator cold without having to pack in ice or blue ice packs that take up space, and get your stuff wet.

And for the tire pressure police, yes, we ran 'em at max pressure and once again...didn't die. ;-)

about the same as my A8

In fact on a recent 5000 mile run to Montana and return, the "eight" gathered in about 25 mpg, and that was pricey fuel!

We still like the 6, but the 8 is our economy car ;=)

That's great mileage!

Max pressure equals uneven wear. No matter what you say.

Not looking to get into a internet war though;-)

Here we go again. I post about mileage and the tire pressure police want to bust balls.

Again.....for the reading impared, I didn't start doing this yesterday. So I've got some experience to back up my statement, and not just a photo in a book that shows a tire with worn out tread down the middle and a heading that says, "Wear Due To Over Inflation."

And one more time, running a tire at it's max rating isn't over inflating it.

Not looking to get into an internet war though ;-)

Yah! I'm happy

Trip to Burlington Vt. this past Sunday
345 miles RT and 24.3 MPG calculated. (not the trip calculator)

Me?
I'm Smiling ;-)

Have you checked the tire pressure right after coming off the highway?

That would be a good safety check.

24 mpg highway doesn't sound great though. I was up at 26 or 27 mpg on my last road trip...

I have an S6 Avant. My bud has an 05 A8.. there are some differences, but he does WAY batter

he's in So FLA, whcih helps a bit, but he seems to return 20 mpg overall ( mixed driving) where I get 16-17. he does low 20s ont he road where I struggle for 19.

Strange but consistent.

Again, without sounding like a jerk, running the tires at what they're rated for isn't unsafe.

Max psi is rated for cold inflation.
