Re: I know I have an extra idler
and a longer belt, if I remove the extra idler and get the A6 tensioner with the A6 short belt would it work..
the upgrade kit is like $170 from blau
were as I can get the A6 tentioner and belt for $100
I have both cars and the setup looks to be the same except for the extra idler puller, and the A6 does have the hole for the extra idler pulley

Re:
Your crank sprocket is different as well, but the upgrade kit is essentially a later belt and tensioner, so by that I guess the early sprocket will work. The big question is teeth. as long as the early sprocket has the same tooth count, you're fine, but if not, you will need to change it as well or your timing will be off.(but since I don't think that the kit comes with a later style crank sprocket, I assume it's the same)

Re: Belt Tensioner Question
Yes you can do this, I did it on my 92. Get the new tensioner, new shorter belt and remove the idler. Do yourself a favor and write down the part number for the new belt. I replaced my updated belt recently and had a hell of a time getting the right length. Even the dealer had a hard time figuring it out.
