This can't be good for a tire.

I knew I'd eventually find something wrong with the car. I bought it a month ago. I was taking off the brake dust covers yesterday, and I noticed this on the inside of the driver's rear tire. As I don't know when the tires were put on, I have no idea what kind of limeage is on them, but would Goodyear have any interest in replacing this? Or am I stuck buying new tires? Not that I mind getting rid of Eagle's, I just haven't the money right now to do it, and they still have quite a bit of tread left on them.
Any ideas what would cause this?
Thanks in advance!

better let a tire guy look at it before putting back on..
you don't want a "firestone/explorer" incident to happen! If that is the only tire like that, the cut probably formed from a small slit, and with more and more driving it separated. Ask your local tire dealer if that size/make of tire has had similar problems in the past...also, there is no fix "patch" to a side wall hole or cut...

This is a manafacturer's defect. I know because my car had this happen to both of my front tires on the inside sidewall. I noticed this AFTER I test drove the car up to 105MPH.
Go to a reputable tire dealer and they'll get Goodyear to give you a new tire. OK, they'll prorate based on tire tread depth.
