EGR insuff. flow Hey, Austinado, got a question
 

CEL came on again and you called it right-the boys at AutoZone plugged me in and got the egr insuff. flow code. When you used the steel cable to clean out, is there any danger of damaging the temp sensor? don't want to wreck anyghing. tried to find the thread with the detailed instructions, but could not find.

No chance of damage using the frayed cable method....have at it.
 

The temp sensor is just a big brass lug that's flush mounted in there. You'll barely even be touching it.

My suggestion.....after seeing the condition of my system.......is to remove the throttle body and take a dental pick to the 1/4" diameter oriface that's just inside there. That's where the EGR vents, and mine was a little mo-hill of rock hard carbon choking off flow about 99% and blanketing the business end of the temp sensor so it couldn't sense anything.

Maybe I'm jaded, but pulling the whole intake manifold & throttle body isn't that hard...
 

That way you can get it spotless, and won't have to contort yourself to reach it.

2nd, that's what I've done on both my cars.
 

Although I still have an ERG code on my 92... Grrrr

Thanks for the reply, have gaskets coming in tomorrow, hope it is warm here so I can get at it.

I probably should, but time and the weather are not on my side right now. Maybe when it gets warmer.
