Hissing AC 96A6Q
OK, it's hotter than the 4th chamber of hell in Memphis (98 plus plummeting all the way to the high 80's at night)with humidity out the wazoo. AC is working like a champ but when making a turn after it has been on awhile there is a hissing from passenger side (sounds like from cowl area)and occasionally a wet mest coming from the vents. No water build up in cowl that I can see. Engine temp is normal.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. |
Ours hisses, I thinks its just from the pressure change in the evaporator

Re: Hissing AC 96A6Q
I just got my AC serviced this week and noticed that sound coming from the evaporator side of the car. I was worried it was a leak, but am glad some other folks are experiencing the same thing. Unless...we all have leaks at our evaporators.

Completely normal. Pressure equalizing across an orifice.

Thanks for the reply, guess it is OK then so I won't have to make a boat payment for the AC service guy. May be putting the old girl up for sale one of these days.

OK, I was just concerned as it never has done that before I moved to this extreme heat/humidity. Thanks for your input.

could be...
the recirc flap has a vacuum hose that goes into it. The hose can fail allowing a slight leak thus hissing. I had it on mine as well, I capped off the line as I never use recirc and it does not hiss anymore.
To fix, well it just as bad as removing the entire heater core/dashboard as its way behind the glove box. |
