Tranny question. Are trannys from 92 and 94 5 Speed S4 2,2 compatible?

Hi!
The 5 speed tranny of my 94 S4 Avant 2,2 is broken. I´ve found another 5-speed tranny out of an 92 2,2 s4. The have different codes, mine is CET and the other one is CBD. I have asked my dealer and he told me that the CBD was used until late 92 modells and from 93 to 94 the CET was used. Both trannies have the same spare part # for their housings and for the inner parts including mounting points.
Does anyone know, if I can use the older tranny in my S4 and what are the differences between the trannies if there are any.
Regards,

The main thing that matters is that the differantial is the same ratio. If it is not you cannot use it because it will cause the centre Torsen diff to try and equalise the speed difference between the front and rear all the time. You could however. swap the diff from your old box into the new casing, this should fit OK. Check the output flanges as well as they change like the wind! The other thing to do is try and find out the final drive ratio for both the old and new box, your dealer should be able to confirm this from their microfiche.
