Default 1986 coupe GT - Heater Core Flush

hi there,

I was told to flush my heater core(I am unable to find it in engine compartment). How do I accomplish that. Can somebody walk me through the whole process or is there a Service manual (with pictures). Really appreciate that.

Thanks

If you only want to flush the heater core you would have to hook up something to the two coolant lines that go through the firewall. They're basically the in and out of the heater core, which is behind the dash. It's easier to just flush the whole system at once, making sure to put the heat/cool selector lever all the way to heat, which opens up the valve that you can see in the engine compartment to let coolant through the heater core. Just be aware that sometimes they will have developed holes over time that have become plugged with scale and gunk and a good flush will dissolve those deposits and expose the leaks. You may very well want to start with just hooking up a garden hose to one of the heater core hoses and leave the other one open to drain into a bucket.
