87 GT Coupe, want to make manual trans
I have an 87 GT and has auto that's not working. Anyone know what manual 5spd trans will fit for a transplant or what year most desirable?
also contact me if you have one for sale.
thanks

Swapping from automatic to manual trans in a Coupe GT...
Welcome to the forum!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but to swap from auto to manual transmission on the B2 chassis cars is no easy undertaking. The main reason most folks decide against the swap is the fact that the tunnel/floor pan are completely different between the manual and automatic equipped cars. Meaning that you will have to swap the tunnel from a manual trans car into yours in order to proceed with the swap. This is a big undertaking, not to mention you need a manual transmission donor car.
I am not saying that it can't be done....but you will definitely need some cutting, welding and fabrication skills. Then you will need all the mechanical parts....transmission, pedal box, clutch master and slave cylinder and all the hydraulic lines. Not easy stuff to find these days, and the cars are nearing 30 years old. Unless you can find a relatively complete manual trans donor car that has all the parts you need.
I do have a 1983 Audi 4000 4E that has a good automatic transmission in it....drove the car back from Indiana. I am pretty sure that it will bolt up to the five cylinder in your car. Obviously, this is not exactly the solution you were looking for, but might be an option worth considering.
Best of luck in whatever you decide.
Cheers,
Ted H.
