Air flow meter/fuel distributor swap
If I have a spare untouched air meter/fuel distributor with the exact same part number as mine, will it bolt right up to mine without any adjustment?
I discovered yesterday while changing the air filter that someone before me had messed with both the air fuel mixture screw and the potentiometer screw on my original setup. My uncle owned it before me, so he must have taken it to a shop to fix some poor running condition. Rather than fix the real problem it looks like they tweaked the factory settings on these two parts. I'm thinking that is what's causing the horribly rough idle. Bentley shows how to adjust the air fuel mixture to roughly factory, but it looks complicated to adjust the potentiometer. Anyone have an opinion on my original question of swapping them?

It'll definitely swap just fine. Heck, I have a 5-cylinder turbo fuel distributor on my 4-cylinder non-turbo (at the moment anyway) engine. CIS in general doesn't care. Of course that's different with an ECU version of CIS, but same part number to same part number won't be a problem.
Having said that, be sure to rule out the simple things first, such as vacuum leaks.

I did fix some nasty leaks on the intake boot, but beyond that nothing leaks. The smoke trick was awesome.
Honestly, I was kind of at my wits end, and then I noticed that the plug covering the fuel mixture screw was missing along with the factory glue covering the potentiometer screw. It's an easy swap, so I would love for that to be the magic bullet that fixes it. I guess worst case scenario I will have to tweak the fuel mixture. No big seal. So far everything else has either made it run slightly worse or just slightly better.

I was able to swap the air meter this morning, and it definitely made a difference. There's still a bit of a misfire at idle, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was. It also idles higher now. It used to hunt around 750 rpms, but now it sits closer to 800. Now that everything is back to factory specs, I have to dial in the timing. I'll post more after I drive it for about a week.
