After having pull apart the engine in my 1984 Audi coupe gt withe 2.1/2,114cc (its engine code D in the Vin). in the process have found many things that need to be replaced and have decided to put some performance parts in while I have it apart and out, however, I am on a $1500 budget and am curious what I could do with that. I'm not looking for anything super fast but would like to have it in the 5 to 7 second 0-60 if that's even possible with my price range. If not I would still like to put some parts on and do the rest later. I am aware that putting in the 2.2 20vt is popular but from what I have seen shipping would put me beyond my price do to my location in Montana.

Not sure what you mean by 'performance parts', as it's hard to get much more power on an non-turbo moto without spending serious money. That being said, there are things you can do to 'tweak' everything to do the best it can do.. :-)

You can likely get a 10vt for around $300, but I will tell you from experience that it's all the little things that add up. Intake piping, gaskets and parts to refresh the engine, swap-specific stuff. So whatever you do, look at all the costs you might run into all down the line. What do they say? Take the estimated cost of a car project and double it?
