Crankcase breather tube.

Crankcase breather tube.
Hi everybody. You know how the crankcase breather tube fills with crap depending on the weather? I was just thinking about eliminating the tube and using something like a K&N crank filter instead. Maybe a good idea?
I was also thinking about something else. To eliminate the cluster of vacuum hoses where the isv is located.. The isv only does one thing doesnt it? (which is regulate idle). I played with it, disconnecting it ect. In reality, couldnt it be removed? I could see how this would pose a problem in the winter months though.
Well, what im actually thinking of for fun is really what a race setup would be like in these cars. (which components would be eliminated etc, absolutly not caring about drivability). As I have not looked under the hood of a track CGT\4kq.
Feedback would be great!

DON'T do it Ricey!!!!!!!!
The crankcase breather will spew caca out in the engine bay, eventually getting into the interior.... Making you SICK!!!
I'm serious!! the "blowbye" is REALLY nasty, you dont want to breathe the fumes!!!
You DO need the ISV, your idle will be ALL over the place without it!!

Re: Let give this one a shot..........
I know nothing about any of that stuff. Never toyed with it. I can give and example and maybe it will help. My 66 Pontiac Gran Prix had a bad crankcase breather. It has a tired 389 with bad rings and knocks. When I first bought the car, there was alot of blow-by which did fill the inside of the car. We ended running the breather to a PCV valve, which the car did not have, and it eliminated 75% of the blow-by. instead of going in the car it get blown out the exhaust. PCV valve is mounted on the valve cover which directs the blow-by coming from the crankcase into the head and out the exhaust. Very hackish, but it works. This is only temp, we plan on restoring the car and rebuilding the engine. For now it makes it easier to move the car around. Just an idea, don't know if it helps you in any way.

Thanks for the input!
I can see where dgg may have a good point. A crank filter would probably clog up really fast also. DDG, you dont have blowby do you? Youd better not..new engine!
