Default Have a turbo engine question

I was wondering if it is possible to use a vw 1.8t in a 4kq. Could you just rotate the engine and just hook it up the the tranny. I no one is front drive and the other awd. But i thought all vw and audi engine are sort of interchangeable. I am asking this because I have a great deal on a 1.8t. If i cant use it in my 4kq, i will just have to find a rabbit gti and put it in and sell the audi. I want a turbo car bad.

Default It's been done before. Not on a 4k, but an 80q; basically the same concept.

If the 1.8T is out of a Passat, you don't have anything to worry about. If it's out of any other VW, you'll have to do something about the drive-by-wire, and a few other transverse-to-longitudinal issues(mounts being one of them). If you're going to do a VW with it, though, why not use an A2 Golf or Jetta? The A1(Rabbit, Scirocco) is a pretty flimsy chassis, and doesn't respond well to a lot of power. Someone over on VWVortex has a 1.8T Scirocco, and he's always breaking or twisting something on the body, even with the rollcage and various braces.

Default The 80Q used a non-dbw Passt 1.8T

The engine came out of a 1998 Passat GLS 1.8T manual. Drive By Wire didn't start until model year 2000. You would also have to use the 1.8T tranie and the beelhousing won't bolt up. Then you'll have to either go with aftermarket EFI or find a way to transfer the Passat dash into the Audi. The 1.8T "talks" to a bunch of stuff in the dash and won't run right on the stock computer system without it. It's a MUCH biiger swap that a MC engine swap. The price of a good non-dbw 1.8T out of a Passat or A4 costs about as much as a complete MC swap and the install is a BITCH. Plus, the 1.8T with the stock K003 turbo can only go up to about 230hp and even with a K004 swap without internal mods you're looking at 260hp. I thik you can get more power out of an MC or 20VT... I'd love to do it some day, but I think I'm destined to to a 20VT in my CGT...
