Hello hello directions needed

Hey all,
I recently purchased a 4k cs quattro for a reasonable price however I am not an Audi guy, in fact this is my first Audi. I've owned only BMW's before now so I have no idea where to find info on these cars especially one as comparatively rare as this one. I guess I'm just asking for advice on the best forums, manuals, parts suppliers, and such that you have found as well as any advice you wish to share.

The car itself is a tornado red 1986 4000 CS and at the moment it is not running. I bought it Friday and it came rust free with a second spare engine and gas tank which was nice, what wasn't nice is it was someone else's project car so there's some stuff to sort out. So far it has become clear that I need to sort out vacuum lines everywhere, learn about CIS and how it works and how to make mine work, and then move on from there. First things first are I know I am missing the fuel pressure actuator (?) or regulator that bolts onto the front of the distributor and then random unimportant cosmetic things. I see that this actuator/regulator is expensive as hell, (coming up on what I paid for the whole car) I am assuming this is necessary and there's no way to circumvent it or cheaper parts from other models I could use?

Thanks anyone for your help!

Hello CJC,
welcome to the bright site since you finally left the dark site.:D:D:D:D:D:D

Anyhow, where are yo located? People around you might be able to help if needed.

The 4kq is relative easy to handle, lots of TLC and you will be running soon.

1st I would tackle the main mechanical normal issues:
- Engine, all fluids and filters, timing belt and all other belts, spark plugs and wires, vacuum lines
- Chassis, all bushings, shocks and brakes, tires

Good luck and enjoy the wrenching,

Ciao

Werner

HAHA don't be fooled I still have my e36 BMW!

I'm in Boise, Idaho! Hopefully there may be someone around to show me the ropes and whatnot.

So far I've been reconnecting the fuel lines and trying to figure out the vacuum lines with the help of some random diagrams and pictures of under the hood of other 4kq's I found online. But after those are all sorted I will definitely be doing the other items you mentioned!

CJ,
ah Idaho, the growing state soon to be.

I am in MI, just a bit too far from you .

The vac diagram under the hood is the one to follow. Just use the braided lines as original. You can get most of the basic stuff at "AutohausAZ".
Get your self a Bentley book. As for the parts catalog I use:

Ciao

My god that site is a godsend thank you! You're saying there's been a vacuum diagram under the hood this whole time??!

Just ran out and looked.... Holy hell I feel dumb now, I never looked at the underside of the hood I was too distracted with what was down below... Thank you again!
