Default Hot, hot coolant!

I noticed my coolant level light was kicking on when I took sharp turns. So, when I was filling up with gas I decided to look at the coolant level in the overflow tank. Ouch! Scalding hot coolant erupted out of the tank when I took the cap off.
What do you think the problem is? I had the water pump replaced about 2 months ago when I had a new timing belt put in.

Default I think that's normal...

I never can take off the cap of the expansion tank when my engine is warm...the pressure releases steam that's always waaaay too hot. This was a big pain when I was over-heating a lot and had to frequently fill the expansion tank w/ more coolant. I'd carry a sacrificial ski glove to open it so I wouldn't get burned.

That being said, I have steam that errupts...you said you got burned by the coolant itself? Guess it's good and full (but why the light flicker?), but I'd say this is normal due to the pressure in there. (At least normal according to my 4kq!)

Default Sounds normal to me

The overflow cap is the pressure cap for the system, similar to the filler cap on the radiator of most any other car. Audi locates the cap on the tank because it's the highest point in the system.

Default I had the same problem (light coming on)....

Happened when I took a sharp right hander. My coolant level was low...added some no more light.

Default Re: Hot, hot coolant!

your system probably had an air bubble in it after the pump was put in and it finally burbed. I'd say add coolant, look for and wetness on the hoses (may need to be tightened) and wait and see if the level goes down over time. Sealed systems with an overflow tank run under pressure so the coolant can run whith a higher boiling point. When you released the pressure some of the super heated coolant boiled up.

Default Normal...but you're low on coolant.

The sensors are super sensative. The cold level need to be well ABOVE the min mark when COLD. Add alittle more and it will stop flickering when your corner...

Default Yeah, had hot coolant explode on my hands before.

You may have small hairline cracks in your expansion tank like I do. Do you hear any gurgling noises coming from the tank when the car is turned off? If so, it's time for a new one.
