Default I have narrowed my alt. problem down to my exciter wire (blue wire on back of alt.)....

...The battery warning light doesnt come on and I have read some older posts in the 5k forum of cars that have the exact same problem as mine. The alternator side of the wire looks clean and is connected tightly, I just dont know where it goes once it passes through the fire wall. Anyone have any pics of where it connects to on the inside of the car? If i need to replace the wire then i need to know where it goes. TIA!

Default If your grounds to the engine and battery are>>>

clean and not corroded, you may have bad diodes.

Did you replace the cables to the alt? are they in good shape? did you use a purchased rebuilt alt, or did you rebuild it yourself like some here do?

Default diodes are an internal component that allows the alt to do it's "thing"

Huw's audi garage has a good explination of this. Here's the link.

Personally, I don't rebuild an offending alternator myself, but have a good local shop do it. Some on here do all this themselves... maybe they'll chime in to assist ya!

click!
