I'm replacing the waterpump should I use anything on the "O" ring
#2
I didn't on mine.....
I could find nothing suggesting I should, so I just installed it dry. I did however use a new seal (which came with the pump), and cleaned the mating surface with scotchbrite before reinstalling. You definitely won't want to use any Permatex or sealant, because you may need to break it free later to adjust your timing belt tension.

Make sure the surface on the block is clean ScotchBrite it!
I like to use some anerobic sealer on all o rings exposed to coolant. You can get some at any auto parts store it's made by Permatex.

I used something called "coolant hose grease"
available in the dumb little packets they always have by the registers at Auto Zone. I'd love to find out exactly what it is. Anyways, claims to prevent hoses from siezeing (or however you spell that) and prevent electrolisys. Sounds like exactly what the o-ring needs.
