Its been decided... importing a 911 to Europe this summer... but which one?
Should I go for a bit cheaper model, as in the 996? It doesn't have nearly as good an interior as the 997 (current generation), but they are far cheaper, and I could get a full-on Carrera 4S with the AWD from Audi, the big wheels, and a stonking exhaust note.
Or, should I pay just a bit more for a basic Carrera 997, get a much better interior, a better engine, and a bit better resale? Its a dilemma of epic proportions... But... its all in the name of that mythic beast, the Audi RS2. I will be bringing it back, and it will be shown at Carlisle. Quick facts: 2005 Porsche Carrera = $55000 in the US 2005 Porsche Carrera = 60000 Euro in Germany Factor in exchange rate, and the German Carrera = $106,000 Profit = $50,000 Cost of Audi RS2 in Germany = 17,000 Euro, or $23,000 Leaving nearly $10,000 for RS2 restoration, and a bit left over to get a tiny Alfa Romeo to commute in. Lets fire up the Quattro! P.S. Does someone in Ft. Wayne want to take care of a certain Trogdor?

The mythical beast... THE RS2...

|
So, the RS2 will be at Carlisle in a few months?

Ok...
Someone petitioned the NHSTA, and they allowed it, provided the bumpers and emissions were taken care of by a certified importer. So, you switch the bumpers in Germany with an Audi 80/90 of the period, load the original bumpers in the Avant. Emission the crap out of it, so it passes the first time, go through a licensed importer, and viola, an RS2 in the states. It costs about $4K from what I've been told to do it, but its worth it, especially when the car only sells for $15-20K over there.
And oh yeah, its listed on the NHSTA website as the Audi Avant Quattro... too bad they only list the year allowed for import as 1996... |
And you are willing to wait 3 years for it?
