Default Low amps from coil

This is regarding an 4000 CS Quattro.
Have only about half the amps I should at the coil. Car starts but will only run for a few seconds. Have replaced the coil to no avail. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Have you checked the Hall sender? If it's bad, generally the fuel pump will not run also, which makes it easy to tell. But those can start to fail and cause some odd problems and then when they finally go the car becomes a giant paperweight.

Other than checking all the wiring, there's not a whole lot else in that chain. Is anything else not working right?

also check the grounds plus the fuel pump relay can mess up the ignition since it also serves as the rev limiter that shuts the ignition down.

I'd start by checking the fuel pump relay. Try going into the fuse box and pulling the relay (I think its in position 13?) and fashion a jumper between the two large spades. This will have the fuel pump come on (so don't leave the jumper in after the test) then try to start the car. If the car runs normal - you simply need to replace the relay.

I will expand on this by saying that if you find out it is the relay, you can pop the case open and inspect all the solder connections for cracks. Even small ones can completely break the connection. In that case, I just bust out the soldering iron and fix them up. Worst case scenario you'll still have to buy a new one, but it's worth trying to fix them, which is usually successful.

Beats trying to track one down. None of my local parts stores carry them.
