More on the Blau Cam
 

Being the impatient person I am, i put the OE seat back in the car & drove it about with the new cam in.

Set at 0deg cam timing & what I thought was a proper ignition timing, the car ran fine pulled about the same up to 4000 or so and felt better above that.

Now I move the cam timing to +3 deg on the sprocket and advanced the ignition timing by ear to what sounds rite (no timing lite) and the car pulls more less the same up to about 3000, better from 3000 - 4000, then much better above 4000.

I'll get a timing lite to find out the actual iginition timing some day soon.

For reference, ive fitted the throttle body with the bolt to open the butterfly sooner per dwight's page and have ground away the really fat openings in the throttle body itself and generally cleaned up the flow thru it.

So far im pleased with it. We'll know come late april what it did to the top speed etc come late april at VIR.

I ran her out on my local "racetrack" this morning, and above 4500 in 4th the thing started really moving out & I started sweating looking for the local constables...LOL

Of course this is all seat of the pants, but it sure seemed to imprvoe the upper end of the engine..!

No, I stopped at the cam
 

I was toying with changing the head (there was one offered on here & audi fans for about $700) but i chickened out. I figure when & if the headgasket goes, or the valves get destroyed, I'll change it then..!

So just the cam and the TB mods.

you can go a few degrees advanced on the timing
 

I recall stock timing is something like 6 degrees BTDC and you can bump that to 8 or 9 w/o any issues (except maybe a move to premium gas). If you decide to work the head, you can have it milled to raise compression too.

I went 12 degrees advanced on my Elgin 270 cam with minor head work, and run premium gas. It pulls well.

FYI, I saw an indicated 122mph on 205-40-17 in 5th, and the car was still pulling, so top end is really changed with the new cams. With the 205-40-17's, the speedo reads low as well. Top speed is listed at 117, and I can verify that my essentially stock 4000CSQ (Stebro Exhaust) had trouble topping 110 even in best running condition. Not a bad change for a cam and exhaust (on the GT).

Just a FYI, I'll have a Schrick 272 cam for sale soon...
