do you say ahdi or owdi? i know this is kinda stupid but around here you hear both. just wondereing what others think.
my opinion is that it is owdi. taking into account that you do not say sowerkraht, you say sowerkrowt. also the few people that i have spoken to who speak german say it as owdi. at the dealership here thay say both. parts companies have said both. even the few times i have called audi directly, i have heard both.
just curious.

Well when you consider that Audi N.A. pronounces it "OW-DEE" in their commercials...
I think you can safely go with the companies interpretation of how to pronounce their own name.

yeh, i was right, they were wrong.................
i figured i was in the right, and have been since birth(lol). but i just wanted to check. do you guys run into this ever? here it is very common. i always correct people that say ahdee. i politely explain that it is owdee and move on. sometimes i do get an argument going. but it's good to know others are on my side.

that's an english word vs. a german word.........................
of course. as an english word, you do not pronounce it as if it were german. you'd say ahdit. but audi is a german word and should be stated as such, owdee. it's good to see that others argue this.

Actually....it's a Latin word.......
Maybe we should ask Franz Fikentscher's son how he pronounced it when he suggested a name instead of Horch (~ "Hark")...which was trademarked at the time by August Horch's former business partners.
Wikipedia link provided - a similar story is in a History of Progress. Anybody take Latin?
