Default Probably have to sell my CGT Special Build

Well as the title says, I will most likely have to part with my 87.5 CGT Special Build within the next couple of months. The main question is how much should I expect to get for it? Hagerty lists one in “Good” condition as $4,700, which right away I feel is too high, even if it is a Special Build. NADA lists the “Average Retail” at $3675 and “Low Retail” at $2,150. Kelly Blue Book doesn’t even go back that far. The problem I’ve always had is they always list the base model and not the Special Build. Overall the car is in good shape for being 30 years old.

Here are are the specs:
Alpine white
170k miles
Two owner car (my uncle bought it brand new in ‘87)
Manual trans
Digi dash that 100% works
Cloth seats with no tears
No cracks or warping in the dash or plastic
One clear coat spot on driver’s fender
Everything works except the driver’s heated seat

I am going to be a little picky about who I sell to. This is not the car for a new teen driver or somebody who knows nothing about older Audis. Hopefully I can find a fellow Audi nut who will enjoy it as much as me. I would appreciate any recommendations on a price range.

I feel for you and it's going to be tough finding just the right person. When I lived on a busy street people used to see my pair of 4kqs and say they have a crispy pair of $100 bills if I'd like to sell one. And they'd say it like they expected me to ****** it out of their hand with a huge grin on my face. I ended up giving one to my buddy because I needed rid of it and I knew he was going to be a good person to have it. Sometimes it's not about the money but what's going to happen to it when it's out of your hands.

It definitely deserves some good research. I'll poke around and see what I come up with.

Thanks Rog. I’m not expecting to get a ton for it. I think if I can get at least $1500 I would be happy. It’s in good shape, but it does have its own set of quirks. I would probably keep it forever, but bad knee problems are forcing me to go... gasp... AUTOMATIC.

That I understand. I don't like to admit that a manual trans isn't as fun as it was 15 years ago...

I would think that you could get more than that. Here's a sold listing for a pretty decent non-SB:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1985-Audi-G...-/292499337408

And a legit SB, though no word on what it actually sold for:

There's of course no harm in throwing it out there for like $2500 and seeing what kind of bites you get. No matter the price people will always try to talk you down, so you have to leave room for that anyway.

Default Nut

If you do decide to sell it, I am interested. I've owned two GT's, a 4000 q, Coupe q, 200 q, and a 200 q 20V. The first car I chose when I got my license was an '86 silver, automatic, GT.

Well here it is. I'm not happy about it, but it has to go. Spread the word.
