Hi folks, looking for exhaust parts and I can only find the rear muffler at JC Whitney, is that the only choice out there? is this a decent part?

Well the JC Whitney rear muffler is an Ansa, so I ordered it, not that I could find anyone else out there who carried it

Well problems with rockauto, the cat came with no bung and got returned, second on flange did not match front pipe flange, all returned, tearing my hair out

Guys, I think I am almost there, JC Whitney rear muffler (Ansa), Rock Auto for center muffler and pipe from cat, CardID for Cat. Gasket for Cat to front pipe, homemade from three hole gasket from Autozone. OEM gasket is available but is about $50 for small flat 3 hole gasket, seems absolutely crazy to me.

Well today was install day and none of the Rock Auto parts were correct. Trying to return items to them is hard, all must be done online and there is no one that you can speak to, they do not want to pay return shipping unless there catalog was wrong as it was but there is no one to talk to and explain, very frustrating to deal with, emailed them a few minutes ago and waiting for a response.

I hate Rock Auto. I judge companies not by the "I've never had a problem" anecdotes but the "I had a problem and they fixed it (or didn't)" ones. I hope you get it worked out, but my dealings with them were frustrating.

I'll be interested to hear how the exhaust redo works out when you get it all sorted. None of my cars are stock in that regard so I can't help much there. :P

Rog, Rockauto does not want to pay return shipping because there is a Canadian flag next to the pull down item and they say it means the part is for the Canadian market. I pulled down my car, an 85 4000 with 2.2L engine and ordered the parts listed there. What I want to say to them is that the car was a North American car and as long as it is a 4000 with a 2.2L engine all the exhausts are the same but I can not find that information out for sure, do you know if this is true.

Hmm, that's a good question. There was a kid on here a few years ago that had a Canadian 4000 (non-quattro but with the 2.2L engine), but I don't recall many specifics. I'm sure his threads are still on here somewhere. That would be the only Canada-specific iteration that I can think of.

Just for reference, the center pipe and muffler for Quattro are 853253409C or 25154121367 but these parts are NLA from every US source I can find. It looks like you might be able to get one out of Europe but not sure, price was about $120, ECS tuning says they can get one from ECS tuning but in comes from Audi at $280, really
