Shifter linkage issues? Can't find any gears stuck in 5th
I recently drove from tucson to the san diego area and my shifter ball joint completely fell apart due to being old and cracked I replaced it with a short shift kit due to it being the only complete unit I could find. I am still unable to find any gears and it is stuck in 5th gear. I'm assuming I must've broken something in the shift linkage. Possibly where it actually attaches to the tranny. The shifter feels completly loose like it may not be attached to the tranny. Any help would be greatly appreciated I am marooned on Base until I can get this repaired

The linkage is pretty simple, so it shouldn't be too hard. The main failure point seems to be the large bushing that's kind of on the top/driver's side right where the firewall is. If you got your short shifter from 034, they also have that bushing. It's just a bit of a pain to replace. Check that for extreme looseness. You should also be able to see the linkage moving from the engine compartment if you have someone work the shifter. If not then there's probably a break somewhere.
