Default Would this be a fuel pump relay issue?

I've notice the last few days my fuel pump doesn't stop. You know when you first power up the car, the fuel pump will run for a few seconds then stop until you crank the engine? Mine keeps buzzing along, it doesn't stop running, until I turn the main power off.

I'm assuming fuel pump relay... Can I snag a relay from any VW or Audi at a junk yard?

Thanks all.

Not sure but you can usually find the relay new at a vw/audi parts store.

Default either that or the pressure switch in the CIS stuff isn't triggering it to shut off...

the relay is the easier thing to mess with though

I got at least one, maybe 2 kicking around if you need it... lmk

Default What pressure switch in the CIS stuff?

On the Jt motor, the pump relay should stay on only as long as it sees ignition pulses.

If it stays on otherwise, something wrong with the relay.

VW ones will 'work', but you'll get the early rpm cutout, as those relays are designed for 4 cylinder motors which make 20% less spark impules per rev...

Default i thought there was a pressure switch in the CIS...

that told the ECU pressure was built and then the ECU triggered the FPR off until the ignition was actually turned...

Guess I'm way off base then on how that worked... lol. Sorry, didn't mean to mislead. My understanding of CIS is limited to say the least... hence why i yanked it all and went EFI

Default understanding of CIS?

Justin says..

"My understanding of CIS is limited to say the least... hence why i yanked it all and went EFI "

Then Mike said..

"I dunno man, CIS rocks! I seriously think you should reconsider going back to it... "

I say that you are all crazy.. :-)

CIS is like a woman, you can learn to live with it but understand it not a chance!

Default Its better then....

LE-Jetronic, I dealt with that system in a friend's 87 Volvo 240DL. The biggest weak point is the stupid mass-air flow sensor (performs similar function to the CIS air plate). It has a heated wire in it that likes to burn out and prevent the car from running. It isn't cheap to buy new and used ones usually die after a few months. At least you can get the car into limp mode easily by unplugging it.
