Anybody done a fuel pump on one of these cars (1990)? Anyone use the Airtex pump which looks like the OE? I have a Seimens replacement and it doesn't look right at all! The electrical connectors aren't right and the hard fuel line isn't right...and looks as if changes in the tank and connectors would have to be modified...yeach!

I would stick with a bosch or a pierburg. There's a few different bosch pumps that will work. Some of which can be had for under $100 if you know where to look for them.
Probably nothing wrong with the airtex either who knows it may even just be a re-boxed bosch.

The later model cars had a different T shaped connector instead of the 2 nuts. Pretty sure from memory the new pump # was Bosch 040(not at my computer)....A friend has a new unused Bosch with that T connector(everything else is identical) that Partsgeek shipped for a V8Q , but he took too long to return(I threw a used one in)....The 040 still required a tiny bit of grinding on the basket strainer to get it to sit down....3 little tabs as I recall. I went with the Bosch 69419 which has the same connections. Shokan wanted $167 for a used one and I bought a new one for $183.00 with 2 day shipping.

Thanks for your input...My main concern is breaking loose the banjo nut - and potentially the plastic carriage the whole pump sits in...

Don't forget to relieve pressure(remove fuse/start car)....I forgot that step last time in a hurry and got sprayed/made a mess. People have done it without the removal tool 3214, but I've had 2 out of 3 that wouldn't budge, and the tool makes it effortless. Good luck, Tom

Several years ago I purchased the 3214 tool...and the factory cam and crank lock tools for the timing belt job. Your right the right tool makes it best.

I replaced the pump on my 93 along with various other filters/FPR/etc. and was surprised at how easy the job was. I used a Bosch pump, a block of wood and rubber mallet for the locking ring, and the 3214 tool came with the car. I think I had the old one out, new connectors crimped on, and new one in in under half an hour. I probably didn't need it, but it was cheap enough and the old one was a whiny SOB.

Like you, I bought the crank lock and Torque extender for the crank pulley (okay, *Vibration Damper*) for timing belt removal/water pump replacement. For the fuel sender removal, instead of the correct tool, I improvised using four pair of Vise Grip™ Pliers and a long screwdriver to remove & Replace the giant "retaining nut". Worked fine for the three fuel pumps I replaced on my '87 5000CSq.
