Any idea what a MC weighs? or engine conversion idea.
I've been rolling over this idea of putting a chevy V6(4.3L) in the '88 Quattro. I'm wondering how much more it would weigh though.
I'd use some aluminum parts to keep weight down.
I probably wouldnt go too crazy with the torque, for fear of screwing something up. how much torque and horsepower is the limit for the quattro drivetrain?
thanks.

LT-1Q
Ummm, BTDT with both an iron headed and alu headed LT-1's of various years. On a 350cid with the alu intake and alu heads we figured we were still about 75lbs over the stock MC, but with an A/C delete it was roughly a wash. You can probably find my old website covering the "LT-1Q" project. I just got to drive her again last Feb. Torque sure is an awesome thing.
Kennedy Engineered Products makes a GM 90deg V-8 to Audi 016 adapter plate, flywheel and clutch setup. Their Stg-III pressure plate held the 350'ish torque in check quite nicely with a stock Sachs disk.
I wouldn't do the conversion with a Torsen.. but then again I'm biased anyway.

thats the idea.
I figure the V6 4.3L would be a better idea though.. it would fit a lot nicer, and you can still get decent power out of it. also lots of parts are exchangable with a plain 350.

A friend is starting that conversion in Minnesota.
He compared specs between ford and chev. H thought he wanted chev but found that the ford small block was dimensional a much better fit for the Audi engine bay and was 200 pounds lighter.
He said that ford offered tons of aftermarket bolt-ons that are hard to find form chev.
