Audi 200 quattro rear brakes hanging up--is it the brake accumulator or just the e-brake cable?
Just one more question before I dismantle my 200 TQ. Here's the deal. The rear brakes are dragging for sure on my '89 TQ. I can pump the brakes and the condition seems to gets worse. The 'brake' light comes on as soon as you tap the brakes and stays on for a few seconds after you release the pedal. If you pump the brakes (without touching the e-brake) the brakes will drag even worse (and the 'brake' light will stay lit and not go out). I am figuring on the brake accumulator but hoping it is just the cable (seems unlikely). Any ideas?
Thanks Mike 89 TQ

The bomb doesn't cause any hanging in the brakes. You must have a caliper, corroded and sticking. The light can be associated to the "bomb" however. You need to get the hanging brake fixed first to judge it. Not so sure it would be emergency brake as opposed to rear calipers hanging.

If you have a cast iron master cylinder it may be the cause. The steel piston inside the master cyl. expands faster than the cast iron body when heated by the ill placed radiator cooling fan, it can cause the piston to stick inside the housing, and cause your brakes to stick. You can solve this problem by replacing it with an aluminum body master cyl.

Bomb test: run car for a couple minutes, shut it off. Pump brake pedal until you get no assist. A good bomb will give you 20-30 hits. A bad bomb will give you 5-10. A toasted bomb will give you 1 or 2.
WRT the rear brakes... Ck that the ebrake cables allow full return of the ebrake cam on the rear calipers. If they don't, they are dragging and you most likely need new ebrake cables. In the meantime you can snip the ebrake cable and manually return the cam to the unlocked position with a pair of channel locks.
