Default crankcase ventilation sys. and oil pressure issue

could a blocked hose on the c.v.s. eventually result in oil being purged from the crankcase? This is a soft rubber hose which was collapsed and also has a tear in it.

Yes, it could. It can also cause poor running (at least the breather for my 20v head caused poor running when hot).

That's good news I hope. Maybe this is whats at the root of my trouble. I checked the plugs and they were all looking proper. What I dont get is why this hose is so floppy. Is it just degraded? I would think that a hose thats supposed to operate under vacuum would be more rigid.

They are fairly rigid, when new ;-)

They get oil in them, and tend to disintegrate over time...Nature of the beast.

Now I have to find one out here in Hooterville, Maine. Perhaps I can fashion one out of bulk hose from NAPA. Any caveats on this?

You talking about the crankcase hose that runs from the block up to the Tri-hose connection on the valve cover?

If so, the turbo cars have a floppy rubber crankcase hose that is notorious for ripping and creating vacum leaks...

The non-turbo cars got an upgraded steel pipe that replaces most of the rubber section. You should be able to pick one up at nay junkyard.

any semi-rigid rubber hose should do, the vacuum created isnt enough to collapse a new rubber hose

Default The problem with using any generic hose is...

that the original crank hose on the turbo engines has different inlet and outlet dimensions. Using a generic hose that is the correct size on one end and close on the other usually leads to a crummy connection that won't hold, hence a vacum leak..BTDT.

I have also looked for a generic hose that tapers to the right size but have found nothing yet.

The N/A cars you can pretty much rig something from the crank nipple to the metal hose. Also BTDT...
