Default Damn...back to the mechanic..had to tow it out...

I could see this one coming over the last few days..I would turn the key, and the electrical would all come on, but it wouldn't start. Then I turned it again and it would start fine...except for tonight going home from work. I turned it, electrical came on, but the engine didn't start AND I COULDN'T TURN OFF THE ELECTRIC! Even with the key out my warning lights were on, and the climate control led was on. I managed to turn it off by pushing the key in slightly and coaxing it from position two...anyhow, it was towed away and I will probably need a new ignition. Piece of crap! I love my audi..when it works!

Default Sounds like...

it's a bad ignition switch...

Not a very expensive thing to have replaced...

And it's easy to do. Every 5000 that I've owned has had this problem.

Default Re: Sounds like...and if that doesn't fix the start problem...

...have your battery cables replaced. Sounds weird but I had a similar problem with my 5kqt, everything worked but engine wouldn't fire. New battery, new starter and alt tested okay. The battery cables were shot. Only enough electricity flowing thru them to engage all electrics except the engine. A jump would get it going but shut it off and it wouldn't start. If i remember correctly It wasn't that bad to replace ($$ wise) HTH
