Has anyone here tried Bens chip? I'm planning on getting his chip/spring set and later a bypass valve. Just wondering if theres anything to watch out for or if theres any better chips in that price range? Thanks

Are you capable of removing the old chip and installing a socket in it's place? If you are comfortable with that, then go with the QLCC chip.
I was not comfortable with the possibility of destroying my only ECU, so I got mine from Boxerfan. I believe it's a modified QLCC chip, and Boxerfan gave me a different ECU with the capacitors replaced. I got my spring elsewhere, although I understand that Boxerfan has springs too....

Talk to Boxerfan......

I have Ben's QLCC-coded chip in my car, with a spring from Charlie Smith (aka - "QLCC and Charlie spring") for some years now. I installed a chip socket in a spare ECU I got from a local Junkyard for cheap, and then just installed the chip. The process was not without hiccups though, as my soldering was not 100% on the first install which resulted in some strange behaviour (including the dreaded "ECU is toast" code) - resoldering the socket worked well and have had no problems since. Nothing like that feeling passing the 1.4 bar dash readout for the first time - you'll swear that the car's out of control as you approach 1.8.........=:-D
If you're going to DIY, get your hands on some Stabilant-22 or comparable Caig product for the ECU and chip connections.

The best bang for the buck. Definitely get someone who works on PC's to remove the stock chip and solder in the new socket for the press-in QLCC chip. Boosting to 1.9 with no engine work other than the WG spring and strapped IC.

The chip is 'cemeted' to the board. The whole PCB is covered in conformal coating. Even after the pins are desoldered adequately the chip will need to be removed from the PCB delicately so that traces aren't lifted.

As mcorrow stated I also replace the capacitors to ensure longer life of the ECU. Old capacitors fail and will cause collateral damage to other components. This is a worthwhile safety (for the ECU not for people) precaution.

&lt;edit&gt; For standard QLCC items I always refer to Ben. I also really like his 1.8 bar spring. It is a little on the soft side but does match up really well with the QLCC code. He's a great guy and does good work. &lt;/edit&gt;

No longer does chips to the best of my knowledge? I've got a 1990 200qt mc motor. I would like to chip this summer.(at least get a chip before no one does it any more) Trying to source a chip (set)? Also looking for a 5k chip for a new member. I'll give specifics if needed.
