Flashing CAT problems and low low.. low gas mileage (heater box work related)
Need some help guys.
Worked on the heater box months ago, yanked, poked, prodded, pulled, our way into the unit for a new fan install.
The next morning.. fired her up, CAT light flashing with all its red glory, and now getting and average of 8mpg or less..
I really need to get this fixed, just don't see anything out of the ordinary however it HAS to be heater box related, or in the general area.
Cheers,
Joel

Model?
5kt or 2c check the intake air temp sensor if it happens under load.
Tried puling codes yet?
O2 sensor?
Multi-Malfunction Temp. Sensor?
If the motor always thinks it is cold it runs with a fixed rich setting.
That's all that comes to mind.

There is nuuuthing, nuuuuuthing,
remotley relative to the symptoms you are experiencing that's under the rain deverter.
Didn't you do the blower motor months ago?
CAT light flashing could be a few things..what are your symtoms?

There is one thing...
The soul of a demon the likes of which no man ever wants to see. This demon is currently living in his electrical system.
The heater box was its prison, trapped there by the Audi Gods after a long battle thousands of years--seventeen years ago!

yes did the blower motor in January... just fine on the ride up, next morning, flashing cat
and horrible mpg. I'm running very rich as well. Thought some of this could be cause by a leaking crossover fuel line, but that is replaced now and symptoms are still there.
running rich.. flashing cat.. bad mpg.. thats all she wrote..
Could we have yanked some wires working on the blower motor to cause this? bleh

OK....
Some principles remain the same. O2 is probably the first thiing to change if you don't know when it was done. After that the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) is next up. There have been instances where a blown FPR has flooded the engine causing hydro-lock and destroying the motor. Then there are the temp sensors. If the ECU is confused by faulty cold motor temps it will keep running in open loop and give poor mileage since it is running in the start up loop of operation were extra fuel is added before the engine comes up to operating temps. HTH.
