Default Mid Muffler

My mid muffler has a fairly large rust hole in it, and i guess its time to do something about it. Aside from a direct oe replacement, what options do i have? My goal is to keep vibration and noise to a minumum. (1990 Audi 100, 3sp. auto)

I have a BOSAL mid muffler. I'm not very happy with it. No vibration but there is a noise i don't like when the car is cold. This thing is only 3 years old, looking brand new but it's noisier than any old muffler when cold.
Stay away from them.
I'm sure you can find many aftermarket solutions. Go to a nice muffler place and ask them what they can offer for your car and your needs.

I have found that having exhaust stuff custom made is not all that more expensive than any other alternative. Sometimes less, and it fits. Of course, it all depends on who is doing the job. Custom made is one of those terms losing its meaning. There are so many varieties that many shops now just keep straight pipe and bend up everything.
