Default Misfire! Please help! Wet distributor?

Hey guys. Drove my car through a little puddle and it's developed a misfire. What's the first thing to look for? First Audi I've owned so I'm not messing around.

Thanks,
Joel.

Back in the old days, I used a product call "Wire dry" or something like that. I would remove the distributor cap and plug wires, clean them good and apply a couple/three coats. Install the wires and give it another coat in place. The stuff was like a clear plastic that sealed the ignition system. Held up during water crossings with the Jeep and rally cars.

I did find these on Amazon and they seem to have similar properties.

It's very possible that the water splashed up, hit the down pipe and the steam/vapor got into the cap and the wires. You have 2 distributors on this car so check the one and the wires on the side you hit the puddle. Be very careful if it's the right side distributor, that side has the "Hall Sender" on it and can easily be damaged if mis-handled. I would carefully pull the plug wires off one by one, inspect them for arcing or deterioration. Once again, be careful, a new set of wires will run you around $225.00. New caps and rotors are substantial too.

If you don't have a belly pan maybe stay clear of the big puddles, and be sure to report back here with the results.

When it's dark out, spritz the wiring with the engine running and see if there's indication of spark loss.
