blinks the lights on once and then goes off. Any ideas. This is for an 87' 5000 CS Quattro

When I had the identical problem, with the identical car the solution was to replace the headlight switch. Of course, that assembly includes the turn signal, windshield wiper and hazard light switches as well. Steering wheel needs to be removed.

Any one taken multi switch apart?
My up/down switch for the trip computer only goes up now (no down): I suspect getting some contact enhancer/Staiblant22 in there would fix the problem, but I don't know if the thing can be taken apart. Anyone done that?

Re: Any one taken multi switch apart?
I never took mine apart for the 18 years I had the car as that, along with the climate control system head worked perfectly for me all those years. Of course, I had to replace both (day & night) bulbs on the clock/computer switch a couple of times.
I have a feeling you can take it apart even if it was ultrasonically welded. Cut with an exacto knife and glue it back together when done. By the feel of that switch, I am guessing it is a metal dome switch which only fails by the dome staying depressed. Does the switch "feel" different? If not, it probably is a broken trace on the circuit board that the switch is attached to. Scrape off some of the conformal coating from the circuit board and run solder over the crack or just bypass the traces from the switch area with fine wire.
It would be interesting to find out how much Audi wants for the part... I will guess $140.00

When this happens, try thumping the top/center of the dash board...

It's located under the dash near the climate control temp impeller fan opening. Attached is a pic of the booster/control unit.
