Source for teensy VDO odometer gears?
Car: 1988 5000CS TQ
My ododmeter has failed because a tiny plastic gear (about 3/8" dia) between the motor and the odo's mainshaft has lost about a third of its tiny plastic teeth.
Can anyone recommend a source for a new gear?
TIA.

My car's odometer is electric motor driven
Thanks for the photo. The odometer in your photograph appears to be from a car whose speedometer is driven by a flexible cable from the transmission -- correct? What year and model is it from?
The speedometer / odometer assembly in my car (88 5000CS TQ) contains two small electric motors that are mounted at right angles to each other. One drives the speedometer; the other drives the odometer. The electric motor that drives the odometer has an output shaft with a tiny black gear of about 1/8" dia. That gear drives the broken gear, which is about 3/8" diameter and cream colored.
I'll try to post a photograph.

Hey, how'd you get the face off the gauge?
More specifically, the needle must come off first. How does the needle come off without destroying the mechanism? The face comes off with a couple of screws.

Very carefully

On speedo / odo assemblies that are mechanically driven by a flexible cable, it's possible to pry the needle off the speedo shaft. I use a tool that's intended for removing interior panels, and a rag to protect the face from scratching.
On my 88 5000CS TQ, I didn't need to remove the needle. I just removed the electric motor (mounted by two small screws) that drives the odo.

Nope, this one is motor driven too.
I took off a few of the gears so you could see the gear closest to the actual odo shaft.
its from an 84 5KT on the opposite side from these gears, is the motor.. I'll take more pics after lunch

VDO speedometer shop has but won't sell the gear
The local speedometer shop told me that they would repair the odometer for $150 -- but won't sell me the gear.
I'll keep hunting.
I did, though, find this seller:

http://www.odometergears.com</a

my car had the same problem...so I bought another gauge cluster and it stopped working after 3 miles
then I went with a bicycle unit that measures speed and distance and such...but it stopped after a couple months...
