T belt tensioner

A few years back, I had my mechanic install a new T belt in my 87 5K, now, I wonder if I should have had a new tensioner installed at the same time. Any thoughts? Tensioner in car is prolly the original that was installed when the car was new. My 87 has only about 80K miles on the odo, when I bought it four years ago, it had 64K miles on the odo.

technically speaking, the waterpump is the tensioner for the belt. which should always be done when

the t-belt is being done. there is a idler pulley that should have been replaced as well...

what makes you think of this now?

Yeah, do the tensioner/roller as well. If the bearings fail, you could have big

timing belt/valve troubles, as I'm sure you know. Also, make sure it is properly torqued, or oil will leak right out of there.

HTH.
