Man I would not want to be looking down at this right now!
Not sure just how the head of an exhaust valve came off (blown turbo maybe), but hard starting don't sound that bad anymore!

3B or AAN motor?

5 valves per cylinder...maybe 1.8t or 2.7t?

Kinda makes you smile when a door handle comes off in your hands...;)

Either a 1.8t or a 40v V8. More likely an over-worked K03'd 1.8t.

Haha, right. I guess a 2.7t wouldn't have 4 cylinders in a row...my bad!

I had a Porsche 911 that burned holes in the tops of two pistons over a few months time period. Second time I traded it for a Mercedes 230SL. Shop fixed it again and sold it to some guy who had the same thing happen a few months later.

Porsche factory tech found the problem was a porous intake manifold casting that would open up and suck extra air when it got to the right temperature. The shop mechanic told me the tech plugged the manifold and filled it with gas and kept playing a torch over it until it heated enough for the gas to start leaking out. That's how he determined it was porous. I had paid for the first repair, Porsche had paid for the second and thirds, but I never got anything back for my troubles originally.
