Is $279 for "big reads" a good deal?

I remember Lloyd (TDL) was trying to convince me to do it on my car. He was gonna sell 'em to me for $375ea.

That's most likely per caliper.

Even so, that's a decent price. But you'll also need rotors, lines, and brackets. There's a reason most "big red" kits are around $2k.

$279 = one 993tt caliper, no rotor, no mounting bracket, no pads...

I know that...i meant is 275 good price for caliper, not that i will do it nor I need it

don't waste your money,

It would be a good price if they were new...

I doubt they are though. Those things usually retail for MUCH higher than the mono-blocs, and you'd be hard pressed to get them for anything less than $250 per wheel.

Re: It would be a good price if they were new...

That's a Porsche dealer. IIRC, they only sell new calipers. Besides, that is $279/each. Not bad for new from a dealer.

Alex...My bolt circle on the Colemans is 7.625". I measured it today. Don't remember if that means I already have the HD's or not?

12x1.25 8-bolt, 7.625" circle.

Re: That's most likely per caliper.

Yeah, because they are over priced, and have to pay a machine shop to do the work on the adapters and hats.

snoogins 05-08-2003 05:55 AM

But I doubt that they are new...

Even used "Big Red" caliper have been going for more money than that. They're most likely reconditioned. The dealer list (per caliper) is approaching $500. The last set I saw on the Rennlist, USED, went for almost $900. On eBay, they've been selling in the $750-$850 (per set) range.
