Now that I'm enjoying and daily driving the 20V, I would like to put a CD head unit in it as it has the original cassette. The local shop tells me my head unit wiring will be a challenge because the wires from the head unit don't go straight to the individual speakers, but to a factory secondary amplifier. So I'd have to bypass that with the new head unit by running new wires to every speaker? True? Or installer speak for "we want you to pay us to install your unit"?

I just want to get a basic unit. I'm an old guy who just wants to listen to CDs, so the ones I'm looking at are $100 head units with more features than I'll use...

in the cq (but i think the 90 too) speakers (rear 1/4 panel, not the dash) are amplified. if you connect your line out from the new head it will work just fine or use the speaker output but bypass it at the speaker.

the best way is to upgrade your speakers as well, they are 23 years old!
