Default 80q parts

i am new at this format...

i picked up an '91 80q. what are my suspension options and brake options. i have read about a g60 conversion; any opinions?

I am building a track car with a 1.8t 20v, just getting an idea on recommended suspensions and brake parts.

Default Re: 80q parts - Brakes

I have a 1988 80q dedicated rally car and had been using the same Brembo plain vented rotors with Hawk HP Plus pads on gravel for a couple years with excellent results and very good longevity. But then I took it to the track and warped the Brembo front rotors during the first day (even with hard compound tires on a 75 degree day). My car is stripped at about 2500lb so I was out braking everyone going into the corner down from about 105mph and would brake hard under 100 feet...I think the Brembo rotors just couldn't handle the extremely hard braking and extra heat generated by the Hawk HP Plus pads.

The Brembo rotors are cheap so I don't mind burning them up over a weekend, but if I were to take it to a road coarse for more than a day or two, I'd either swap them with a new set after the 1st day, or go with DBA 4000 or 5000 slotted rotors to get more longevity. I'd still stay with the Hawk HP Plus pads. I'd definitely stay away from cross drilled rotors for the tarmac tracks...you need all the contact surface you can get.

Default Re: 80q parts - Exhaust Wrap

BTW: If you're going to strip the interior, make sure you wrap the exhaust. That exhaust heat will go straight through the body and into the drivers compartment. It would become so hot in there that I was getting heat craps with a full SFI-5 suit even on cold days. Wrapping the exhaust has helped tramendously!
