about this common "distributor rattle" between 2-4k...
 
what exactly is loose?

i'd like to stop mine from doing it, very annoying

The dist rattle is only on 20v cars AFAIK (which you don't have). See QCrazy's post.

Common and Fixable!!
 
Your timing belt doesn't have enough tension. I had a rattle that was bad enough for passengers to make worried comments. I replaced the distributor three times. The only thing that worked was a slight increase in timing belt tension.

i'll have the shop check it out, it kinda "clacks" at idle too, 10v NA

This noise that I get is very intermittent....
 
It comes and goes as it pleases. After I posted my problem about 20 posts down, I decided to open the valve cover and see if the cam caps were tightened down to spec. But I couldn't get to it because of the rain here and I haven't heard the rattle at all today.
