The fits are tight. The bushing needs to be tapped/hammered in, as well as the core.
 
Like the title says though, "poor man's" bushings ;-)

These are 1.500" body diameter. Forged arms would require +/- 1.750" body diameter

wouldn't matter. Just scrapes it off when pressing/hammering into the CA sleeve.
 
that's PTFE's job, ie; it sticks to nothing and nothing sticks to it. So it's not like you can adhere it to urethane then press/hammer it in.

Best anyone can do is silicone grease but even that will get wiped off when inserting into bore. And ya can't "wrap" an internal diameter any more than you can "push" rope.

bringing this thread back from the dead, I purchased the bushings, size looks the same only problem is the sleve in the middle is a lot bigger on the energy suspension one, the factory one is half the size....any ideas?

I can answer this, not just because I did incorporate this mod (just briefly, as a bridge to a further mod, see below), but because I also used Big Mouses's original idea on a '93 B4's upper rear suspension arms (where these small bushings are more lightly loaded) to do similar:

According to his original post at the top of this thread (see where he says "Clean the core up...") Big Mouse re-used the Audi OEM cores; and so did I. They are the correct length, O.D. & I.D. allowing proper fitment within the sub-frame brackets via the Audi through-bolts. The outer surface of the old cores will often be poor and require attention. Do enough of these and you will hold on to the cores you find loose & in good shape. The "Energy Suspension" cores are not of the correct length or more critically for our purposes, the I.D. is too large; so even though their outside surface looks very appealing, sleeving them down may be more work than say scratch-building some.

Looking back at this mod (Energy Suspension poly bushes in stamped lower A-arms) and the success I've had with the one detailed below (OEM bushes & thrust-washers in forged lower A-arms), I believe this mod is best viewed as viable intermediate step or quick fix to use whilst preparing the parts towards another very simple yet even more effective upgrade; forged lower A-arms.

Ultimately, you may want to pursue the avenue in the link below as it has provided me all the benefits listed therein; and has lasted several years without degradation or service.

The above has provided me with a most accurate and durable solution. Because the steering feel is so satisfying due in part to the above set-up, I must recommend it. If you decide to go this route and require the necessary thrust-washers, write me.

hey just saw the reply thanks a lot lago, thank god i saved the inner cores cuz thats exactly what i thought i had to do...now to take that sleeve out! Wish me luck haha
