Default Audi 90S 1993 - Oil warning light

Who can help me.
The oil warning light comes on and the mechanic can not find anything what can be possible wrong. Oil pressure, pump and pressure switches have been checked. Light comes on at 2000 RPM. Would appreciate some help, I am afraid to damage engine and do not drive it until it can be found. Have used always synthetic oil Mobil 1 15-50. Thanks.
Have also problems with ECS light coming on between 55 and 62 mph in 5th gear only. No one has been able to find that problem either. I usually swith ignition switch off and let it restart while driving.Takes care of it for a while, Light never comes on at 66 or higher or 45 and below.
Thanks again for anyone's input.

No wonder you have problems!!!!!

Try using 10W30 !!! Newer ever put 15W50 in your engine again! I know its recomonded but old engines simply cant take it!

Default Entirely the opposite is true! The older the engine, the slacker the tolerances,

therefore the less difference it will make using a heavier oil. I would have thought there would be no problem using 20w-50 in temperate or hotter climates. It might not be optimal but it ain't going to do any damage

Default If you red my post I said its recomended !! But for the new engines though!!

Engine that is well worn out cant take the pressure that is being created in the engine there fore may demage the engine! To prove that look at the oil pressure gauge.

Switch to the lighet oil from 15W50 made my pressure to come down from 2.5 idle to less than 1 Idle! Trying an doing it wouldnt realy hurt you!

Sounds like an oil pressure problem, your oil pressure sender is reading pressures outside normal operating parameters and flagging up the oil warning.

Reading your post, does the warning come on and stay on after 2000rpm? could be one of the oil pressure valves in the cylinder heads has failed or the pressure relief valve in the oil pump has stuck. The causes can be due to sludge in the oil and can be removed by flushing the old oil and flushing again with new oil and filter before filling with the final oil and filter (Audi/O.E. supplier)These valves seem to operate at pressure activated by engine speeds around 2000rpm.

Oil can be 10w40 to 20w40 depending on local temps.

HTH!

Default is this a proven fact or just a theory?

V6 engines get much warmer than inline5

Default What if survival is a bigger concern than power ?

To me it seems that as parts get worn, you'd want a thicker layer of oil (more viscous oil) to protect them from all the rough bits, and fill in the gaps.

What's going to do more damage - metal rubbing on metal through thin oil, or extra oil pressure ?

thicker oil does not mean more protection
