audi cab no start
Hi
I got an Audi cabriolet 1998 and the car would not start. Battery got 12.6 volts, put a new ignition switch from the dealer, still no start. when I try to start i just hear click and the fuel pump. It started when i start pulling out the relays when the fan still running on high speed and engine off. It started intermittently until it will not start anymore. I checked my starter by putting the key in on position and went underneath the car to start it in the starter by using a long nose plier and started and engine running. I turned it off and try to start it again with the key and no luck. I believe is the relay is the problem. I looked at the starting circuit diagram and i cant find the relay number. Please Help
Thank you very much to all.

Might be the park neutral relay...relay number 1 accoring to this.
Looking at page 5 on this..the only thing between 50 on the ignition switch ans 50 on the starter is that relay. 50 is the starter engagement circuit.
If the car had a manual transmission there would be no relay.

The part number should be 357927181A and should have "150" on the top...double check.
The A4 used a similar relay number "175" on the top that may have been used too. Use the "150" relay if you find you have A4 relay in there.

Hi everyone
Update on my no crank no start. I brought it to my mechanic and found out that the key ignition cylinder is broken. That make the car not to start because the alarm system is giving the signal not to start due to broken key cylinder. The mechanic suggested to just put a push button start until i found a ignition key cylinder. I hope one of the members can direct me where to get it, by the way I'm in Ontario, Canada.
I cant post some pictures later.

I think the part number you need is 8A0905851A..NLA from Audi here in North America..still available in Germany for about $110USD. Google the part number the ignition lock was used on Audi 80/90 too..should be some in the bone yards too.

Hi Rusty
That's the part I need but I went for the cheapest fix, the mechanic just installed a push button start and does not cost a lot. I will try to upload the short clip of what he did.
